The Genesis of Polin Sans Typeface: A Multicultural Exploration
For years, I've pondered the convergence of modernist aesthetics and pre-war Warsaw's multiscript landscape, culminating in the birth of Polin Sans. Delving into geometric Cyrillic variants, my muse was "Towards an open layout: A letter to Volodya Yefimov", where circular forms seamlessly melded into classical Cyrillic without impeding readability. Concurrently, while engrossed in typographic pursuits on typoteka.pl, the allure of Jaffa, a Hebrew typeface reminiscent of "a.r.", captivated me. Collaborating with Ben Nathan, a Hebrew specialist, expanded the venture to encompass Greek and Vietnamese scripts. Polin Sans emerged not merely as a typeface but as a historical odyssey through the labyrinthine corridors of Polish modernism, crafted by individuals with richly diverse cultural tapestries. Mateusz Machalski and Ben Nathan, with the steadfast support of Michał Gorczyca and Małgorzata Bartosik, meticulously birthed the Polin Sans family, a testament to unity in diversity.
